ORCID

ORCID is a tool for authors to disambiguate their works from other researchers

Publishers and ORCID

There are currently over 7000 journals that collect ORCID iDs from corresponding authors.

In 2016, a group of publishers published and open letter declaring they will require ORCID iDs in the publishing process of their journals. Some of these publishers include:

  • American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) - publishers of Science
  • PLoS
  • ScienceOpen
  • The Royal Society
  • eLife
  • Frontiers
  • IEEE
  • Hindawi
  • Wiley

Funders and ORCID

The NIH, AHRQ and CDC announced (FY2020) that individuals supported by research training, fellowship, research education, and career development awards will be required to have ORCID iDs [NOT-OD-19-109].

There are over 51 funders that are ORCID members. Some major funders that require an ORCID iD for grant applications, include:

  • American Heart Association (US)
  • Autism Speaks (US)
  • NIHR (UK)
  • Wellcome Trust (UK)
  • US Department of Transportation (US)
