A New NIH Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) System
A new version of NIHMS has been released as of January 2020. Among the changes are an updated user interface that simplifies the login process for returning users; user-friendly options for importing article metadata, requesting corrections, and taking over the Reviewer role for stalled submissions. To learn more about the update, see the video.
The NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS) is a tool for authors and publishers to deposit the electronic version of a peer-reviewed final manuscript to prepare the work for posting to PubMed Central (PMC). Papers in NIHMS are assigned an identifier (NIHMSID).
NIHMS can be searched by a PMID or the NIHMSID to find the status of the work in NIHMS.
Note: You can only locate records by PMID if the record in NIHMS is matched to a PubMed record.
Log in to NIHMS.
If you have an eRA Commons account, select the NIH & eRA Commons route. If you do not have an eRA Commons username, select the My NCBI route. If you do not have a My NCBI account, you will be prompted to create an account.
Once you are logged in, the Find Manuscript feature is at the upper right side of the page. Use the drop-down menu to select PubMed ID or NIHMSID.
