NIH Public Access Policy: NIHMS

New Updates

NIH Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) System

The NIH Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) system supports the deposit of manuscripts into PubMed Central (PMC) as required by the public access policies of NIH and other participating funders.Manuscript deposit via NIHMS is a multi-step process that currently takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks following initial approval of a complete submission. Processing times may vary depending on Reviewer responsiveness and the volume of submissions during a given period.

What is NIHMS?

The NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS) is a tool for authors and publishers to deposit the electronic version of a peer-reviewed final manuscript to prepare the work for posting to PubMed Central (PMC). Papers in NIHMS are assigned an identifier (NIHMSID).

NIHMS can be searched by a PMCID, PMID or the NIHMSID to find the status of a manuscript in NIHMS.

Note: You can only locate records by PMID if the record in NIHMS is matched to a PubMed record.

Log in to NIHMS.

If you have an eRA Commons account, select the eRA Commons route. If you do not have an eRA Commons account, select All Login Options.

Once you are logged in, the Search by NIHMSID, PMID, or PMCID search box is at the upper right side of the page.
