Finding Images: NIH Photo Galleries

No fee is charged to use the images. However, credit must be given to the National Institutes of Health/Department of Health and Human Services unless otherwise instructed to give credit to the photographer or other source. NIH images are in the public domain and cannot be copyrighted. Images may be used, linked, or reproduced without further permission from NIH.

Contents include general biomedical and science-related images, cancer-specific scientific and patient care-related images, and portraits of directors and staff of the National Cancer Institute. Visuals Online currently provides public access almost 2,000 images. Except where noted on the image details page, Visuals Online images are in the public domain and may be used, linked, or reproduced without permission. If you use an image, you should credit the listed source and/or author. Some images are copyright protected and thus are not in the public domain. If an image is copyright protected, you will have to contact the rights holder to obtain reuse permission. Contact information for reuse is posted on the details page for each copyrighted image.

The Library makes available anatomical and medical, instructional, and lifestyle and activity illustrations and photos presented in high, medium, and low resolutions.
