Designing Search Strategies for Systematic Reviews: Intro



Designing Search Strategies for Systematic Reviews is designed to prepare librarians to conduct complex systematic review literature searches. This two-day course emphasizes hands-on activities and enriched learning opportunities. By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Conduct a systematic review consultation
  • Design a systematic review search strategy following guidelines and best practices
  • Translate a search strategy for multiple databases
  • Report search design methods for a manuscript or other publication

The course is designed and taught by librarians from Becker Medical Library.

For the online version of the course we recommend the following:

  • Computer connected to the internet via an ethernet cable. A wi-fi connection should be okay, but a hard line connection is usually more stable.
  • Microphone
  • Webcam
  • Headphones: Optional, but may be easier to hear presentations and other participants.
  • Dual Monitors: Optional, but it will be much easier to follow along with presentations and work on exercises if you have two monitors. 

We will have a technology check (date TBD) a few days before the course to make sure participant technology is working correctly.

Course Information

Designing Search Strategies for Systematic Reviews will be held online August 4th-August 6th, 2021. Registration will open June 3rd at 10:00 AM CT.  The course registration fee for the online version of the course will be $275.00. Participants who attend the full course can earn 14 MLA CE Credits!


Credit and check payments are accepted, however electronic payment via Paypal is preferred. If paying by check, please note that course registration will be forfeited if payment is not received within 14 business days. You will choose your preferred payment option in the registration form.

Cancellation Policy

Cancelation Policy:

Until June 25th: Participants that need to cancel their registration will receive a refund minus a $50 processing fee

After June 25th: There will be no registration fee refund unless we are able to fill the spot with another participant. If we are able to fill the spot the registration fee minus a $50 processing fee will be refunded.
